Bowser is the main antagonist of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Appearance[]

Just like his video game incarnation, Bowser is an incredibly large, dragon-like Koopa, which is a race of turtle-like beings. He has large lips with sharp teeth, yellow and green scales, lines on his stomach, and sharp claws. His most recognizable features are his spiked shell, red mane, horns and spiked cuffs, which except for the mane have been prominent features of Bowser in all of his appearances. While his size has varied over the course of the games, Bowser in the movie stands at around twice the height of Mario.

Personality[]

Bowser is power-hungry, monstrous and ruthless and obsessed in love with Peach. He is an extremely sadistic and cruel Koopa who cares about no one but himself. He goes to great measures when it comes to getting what he wants and doesn't hesitate to hurt anyone who gets in his way.

Plot[]

The Super Mario Bros. Movie[]

Bowser is seen first raiding the Snow Kingdom to retrieve a Super Star, taking all of its inhabitants hostage in the process. Back at his fortress he announces that he will propose to the monarch of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach, otherwise he will destroy the entire kingdom. As he sings a song about his love for Peach and his desire to rule the world, he gets alerted by his right hand man, Kamek that a mustachioed human has arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom, which he dismisses. Afterwards, he practices a proposal when Koopa General interrupts and tells them that Mario is heading with Peach to recruit the Kongs. Bowser orders him to capture the Kongs and he eventually succeeds in getting Peach to marry him. However, once Peach rejects him, Bowser tries to attack her and destroy the Mushroom Kingdom. Then, Bowser beats up Mario and Donkey Kong and taunts them until Mario gets the power star and defeats him. He begs for mercy but ends up getting captured again.

Trivia[]

  • Kenny James, who voices Bowser in the games, is only heard during his conversation with Kamek, when Bowser breaks free from the ice and during the final battle in Brooklyn.
