Trivia Page This page is trivia about Despicable Me 4. Please add any trivia that pertain to that article. |
- The second animated fourth installment film to be produced in 1.85:1 aspect ratio, after Hotel Transylvania: Transformania.
- The main Minions for this movie are Phil, Ralph, and Ron.
- Coincidentally, Will Ferrell, who voiced Maxime Le Mal, also starred in Megamind as its titular character. Both Gru and Megamind were initially aspiring villains, but eventually dropped their careers altogether. Megamind's sidekick is also simply named "Minion".
- Speaking of Megamind, its infamous sequel film was released the same year as Despicable Me 4.
- Despicable Me 4 is the first time that an Illumination Entertainment franchise has become a quadrilogy.
- This is the first feature film in the Despicable Me franchise to be produced in 1.85:1 since Minions; the previous two entries Despicable Me 3 and Minions: The Rise of Gru were produced in 2.39:1.
- Will Ferrell and Sofia Vergara previously co-starred in Strays.
- Coincidentally, Despicable Me 4 was released one month before the first anniversary of Strays.
- And speaking of Strays, both films are made by Universal Pictures.
- Will Ferrell also previously co-starred with Frank Welker (The voice of Kyle) in Curious George, which was also made by Universal Pictures.
- Steve Carell and Joey King previously co-starred in the Blue Sky Studios film Horton Hears a Who.
- In the previous film, Dru steals Gru's airship which leads to Gru saying: "We'll give him a five-minute head start" to Lucy. This was originally thought to be an open ending, which suggested Despicable Me 4 would start off where the 3rd film ended.
- Despite this, the plot goes in a completely different direction, with Dru only appearing in a short, voiceless cameo at the end.
- This film's release date marks the 11th anniversary of Despicable Me 2's first release date.
- Mel is also confirmed to return in Despicable Me 4.
- Otto returns with Kevin, Stuart, and Bob in Despicable Me 4.
- Since Bob was shown to be older in Despicable Me 2 (during the credits), along with the fact that the Despicable Me movies take place long after Minions and Minions: The Rise of Gru, it could be possible Bob would appear in the film in the same design he had in Despicable Me 2, but it’s currently unknown if the new design from Minions and Minions: The Rise of Gru would use instead, however in the TV spot Minions Party Bus, Bob appears in the new design from Minions and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
- Kevin, Stuart, Bob, Otto and Mel, didn't appear in the first trailer, but they appeared in the second trailer.
- Kevin, Stuart, and Bob don't appear until the end of the movie.
- The five Mega Minions are Tim, Mel, Dave, Jerry, and Gus.
- To promote the movie, Illumination created a "Megaverse" website with what would happen if the Mega Minions got their own franchise with spoofs of other tv shows and movies spanning all the way to 2114.[1]
- The Mega Minions reference various Marvel heroes. Tim has powers similar to Mr. Fantastic, Mel has powers similar to Cyclops, Dave has powers similar to the Hulk, and Jerry has powers similar to the Thing.
- The three new Minions in the first trailer (Ron, Phil, and Ralph) were confirmed.
- Ron (medium) and Phil (short and plump) swapped their spiky hairstyles.
- Although the new villain is named Maxime Le Mal, Silas Ramsbottom refers to him as "Max Superball" as seen from the closed captions for the trailer. This could either be an editing mistake, since Maxime's villain name is never stated.
- This is the first Despicable Me film to have licensed music outside the soundtrack.
- On June 7, 2024, Illumination created a Roblox game to promote the movie called Despicable Me 4 Heist Obby where you tried to steal Lenny the Honey Badger, the mascot of Lycée Pas Bon. You could also win free prizes from the game and new game modes were added every Friday up until the movie's release on July 3. The game was discontinued on August 1, 2024.[2]
- This is the second Despicable Me film since the first movie's theatrical trailer to have a traditional trailer style instead of the usual clip styles that the second and third used.
- This is the first Despicable Me film which doesn’t end with Gru flying towards the camera, then cutting to the credits.
- This is the first Despicable Me film which doesn’t have Dave involve with Gru.
- This is the first film to not show Gru's Lab.
- This is the first film to not have Fun, Fun, Fun playing. This is because there weren’t any big things in the film that involve fun and/or amusement.
- This is the first film where Pharrell Williams sings only one song in the film.
- A lot of characters throughout the franchise make their return in the film, such as:
- Despicable Me - Dr. Nefario, Marlena Gru, Vector, Mr. Perkins, and Fred McDade
- Despicable Me 2 - El Macho
- Minions - Scarlett and Herb Overkill
- Despicable Me 3 - Balthazar Bratt and Dru Gru
- Minions: The Rise of Gru - Belle Bottom, Nun-Chuck, Stronghold, Svengeance, and Jean Clawed (The Vicious 6)
- Wild Knuckles is notably absent, as his voice actor Alan Arkin passed away in 2023.
- It's unknown how Vector got back to Earth since he got stuck on Mars according to Mooned, El Macho turned back into human since he turned into a mutant monster after drinking the PX-41 serum, and The Vicious 6 turned back into humans since they got turned into rats by the end of Minions: The Rise of Gru.
- Miss Hattie, Master Chow, Pollito, Clive, Antonio Perez, The Nelson Family, Justin and his family, German Shepherds, Corgi, The Three Beefeaters, Wild Knuckles' Henchman, Valerie Da Vinci, and The MSNBC Anchor Man don't return.
- It is currently unknown if Despicable Me 4 will be followed by another sequel.
- The music in the grocery store chase scene sounds a little like the Terminator theme.
- Russell Brand doesn't reprise his role as Dr. Nefario in this film, being replaced by Romesh Ranganathan, likely due to recent controversy with Brand in late 2023.
- This is the second time a film in the Despicable Me franchise doesn’t feature Russell Brand, the first was Despicable Me 3.
- The way that Sensei O’Sullivan threaten Agnes and Edith is the similar to how Foreman Spike used to mock Mario and Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
- This is the first time the font of the end credits from the first two films to be used again since 2013.
- The license plate of Gru's car from the opening sequence reads as DM090710. This is most likely a reference to the release date of the first Despicable Me movie, which is July 9, 2010.
- The similar vending machine was also used in Over the Hedge.
