— Silas Ramsbottom, to Felonius Gru

Silas Riddor Ramsbottom (Or Mr.Sheepsbutt) is the former director of the Anti-Villain League and the boss of Agent Lucy Wilde. He appears as the overarching protagonist of Despicable Me 2, one of the two overarching protagonists in Despicable Me 3 (the other being Marlena Gru), and one of the main characters in Despicable Me 4. Additionally, a slightly younger version of the character appears in Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Appearance[]

Silas Ramsbottom is a male with short dark brown and light gray hair, a white shirt with a blue necktie, a brown jacket, brown pants and black shoes.

Plot[]

Minions: The Rise of Gru[]

A young Ramsbottom and a group of AVL agents arrived at Chinatown in San Francisco to arrest the Vicious 6. However, when the villainous group used the Zodiac Stone to become super-powered versions of some of the zodiac animals, he and the agents tried to stop them but they were forced to retreat. After the Vicious 6 were defeated by Gru and the Minions, Ramsbottom and the AVL returned and they immediately apprehended the Vicious 6 and at the same time confiscate the zodiac stone, in which it was placed in a briefcase. As a badly burned Wild Knuckles was being loaded into a ambulance, Ramsbottom placed him handcuffs and then accompanies him on the ride to the hospital while at the same time kept an eye on him. Much later, the next day, he attends Wild Knuckles' funeral. He also told Gru to stay out of trouble which Gru "promised to live an honest life."

Despicable Me 2[]

Unable to identify the thief of the PX-41 serum, Silas Ramsbottom orders Agent Lucy Wilde to bring Gru in. When Lucy Wilde brings Gru, Tom and Stuart to the Anti-Villain League headquarters, Silas Ramsbottom introduces Gru to the organization. He introduces himself, which causes the two Minions to burst with laughter due to his name Ramsbottom, which resembles "bottom". He orders Lucy Wilde to explain to Gru what happened and a video about the PX-41. Gru does not accept the job.

Silas Ramsbottom later has a discussion with Gru and Lucy in the AVL headquarters. Gru, during this meeting, because of Margo falling in love with Antonio, adamantly insists to Ramsbottom that the one who stole the serum is El Macho. Silas – confused – points out in frustration that the claim is baseless without any evidence. Lucy intervenes and tells Ramsbottom the duo found the sign the PX-41 serum in the wall of Floyd Eaglesan's store. Gru leaves flustered and Ramsbottom remains annoyed by the entire meeting.

Later, Silas and his agents arrest Floyd Eaglesan after finding an empty bottle of PX-41 serum in Eagle Hair Club, having falsely believed that Eaglesan was the culprit. Ramsbottom informs Gru that Lucy will be transferred to the AVL's Australian branch and tells him he can go back to his line of jams and jellies.

Silas later attends the wedding of Gru and Lucy. He is dancing with Natalie when the crowd dances to YMCA.

Despicable Me 3[]

Gru seems to be approved as an agent again in Despicable Me 3. When a ship with the Dumont Diamond is being invaded by a villain, Silas identifies that villain to be Balthazar Bratt through a monitor, judging from his shoulder pads. He calls Gru, Lucy and other agents to pursue him immediately.

Later, after the failed mission to catch Bratt, Silas Ramsbottom announces his retirement and that Valerie Da Vinci will take his place. Immediately becoming impatient, Valerie pushes him down a hole beneath the stage, while Silas' extremely obese body makes him almost unable to go through it.

Despicable Me 4[]

Ramsbottom later reappears in Despicable Me 4, where he is called out of retirement to track down Maxime Le Mal, and he transforms 5 of the Minions into Mega Minions. He is also the one who informs the Gru Family of Maxime Le Mal’s return and escorts them to their new home.

Trivia[]

  • Silas hinted to Gru that the latter would have been one of AVL's targets had his activities continued after the moon heist.
    • Because of this, Silas distrusts Gru.
      • An example is when Gru hasn't even finished talking about being taken into the AVL, he immediately talks about the AVL without hesitation.
      • Another example is when Gru found the PX-41 serum in Floyd Eaglesan's store, he thanks him for "nothing", even though Gru is the one who found the serum.
      • He openly mocked Gru's line of jams and jellies.
        • Note that while Silas never tasted them, AVL had been investigating Gru for some time even after his retirement, which could explain his knowledge on this.
      • Gru's Minions made fun of his name when they first met.
  • Gru calls him "Mr. Sheepsbutt", basing the pun on the words "Ram" (defined as "A male sheep") and "Bottom" in his name.
  • Both Silas and Mr. Perkins had similar occupations but in different and parallel sides in their respective organizations:
    • Both are initially held in a small position and later received a higher position within the same organization:
      • For Silas, he previously worked for Anti-Villain League as an agent before being promoted to director of the League.
      • For Mr Perkins, he previously worked for Bank of Evil as a bank teller before promoted himself into the director of the Bank.
    • Unlike Mr. Perkins who never quit his job, he chose to retire either due to his old age or health problems such as his obese weight.
