The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a 2023 computer-animated film based on the Nintendo video game franchise Super Mario Bros. directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. Produced by Illumination Entertainment and Nintendo for Universal Pictures, it stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

A follow-up was announced on March 10, 2024 (on Mario Day), and is set to be released on April 3, 2026.[1]


From Illumination and Nintendo comes a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.. The film was released in North America on April 5, 2023 and was released in Japan on April 28, 2023.


With help from Princess Peach, Mario gets ready to square off against the all-powerful Bowser to stop his plans from conquering the world.

A Brooklyn plumber named Mario travels through the Mushroom Kingdom with a princess named Peach and an anthropomorphic mushroom named Toad to find Mario's brother, Luigi, and to save the world from a ruthless fire-breathing Koopa named Bowser.

In 2018, it was announced that Nintendo and Illumination would create an animated Super Mario Bros. film.[2]



The teaser trailer was released on October 6, 2022. Then, the official trailer was released on November 29, 2022, and the final trailer was released on March 9, 2023.
